We are often asked how to achieve the perfect winged eyeliner. Some women may feel it is too tricky to do and some may even avoid it altogether. But, don’t let those nerves put you off. Combine these tips with a little patience and you’ll be well on your way to having the perfect winged liner…
It all starts with the right liner
First thing first, it’s important to pick the right eyeliner. I personally prefer liquid liner but it’s also fine to use a pencil liner if you’re after a softer line. There are a vast array of liquid eyeliners to choose from, just make sure you pick one with an easy-to-use applicator. Waterproof is also a good shout and will last all day long.
Now it’s time to apply!
Step One
Place the tip of your eyeliner, along the lash line, at the inner corner of your eye, then gradually swipe the liner to the outer corner of your eye. Your wing will be darker, depending on how firmly you press down with the liner. Retrace your steps a couple of times if you prefer a thicker, more elaborate wing.
Step Two
Angle your line towards the end of your eyebrow to wing the eyeliner out. I usually finish my wing where the natural crease ends, but do what you feel looks best because eye shapes are all different. Gently pull on the skin at your outer corner to draw a straight line.
Step Three
Thicken the curve by gently filling in your wing. Make sure you have a cotton bud to hand as chances are you might make a couple of little mistakes to start with. Just gently glide the cotton bud over the wing if you need to.
Practice Makes Perfect
As with everything, practice makes perfect. No doubt it will take a couple of tries to get the desired look. Try resting your elbow on the sink in front of your mirror if you’re having a hard time steadying your arm. That way you only have to move your wrist and will have more control.
