70% of industry professionals say there is an increase in asking about advice for sun protection in summer months. This suggests that sun safety and protection is less important to clients in other months. This YouGov Study (of 2,000 people) suggests only:
- 22% apply SPF daily
- 8% reapply it
- 55% only apply SPF when it is sunny
- 40% of those who wear SPF only wear it only holiday.
Clients who understand the need to protect their skin daily (365 days a year) will have better treatment results – and maintain healthy skin for longer. They are also more likely to buy more retail.

Advise Clients on Sun Safety
Start with the basics. Explain why they need a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. If you are a SkinBase Therapist, call the office to order your SkinBase SPF retail products. If not – become one today! Tell them to apply it generously daily and to reapply as necessary (every couple of hours). This is even more important if they are swimming or playing sport (and sweating).
Skin Protection
Tell clients about other ways they can contribute to protecting their skin. Tell them to find shade during peak sun hours (between 10am and 2pm). Remind them to always wear protective clothing like hats and sunglasses.
Promote Year-round Protection
Emphasise that sun protection is not just for sunny days or holidays. Tell them the importance of year-round protection. UV rays can penetrate clouds and cause damage even on overcast days. It is essential to make sun protection a daily habit, regardless of the weather or the season. This will protect them from skin damage as well as sunburn. This study also suggests that:
- 68% of the participant were worried about sunburn
- Only 61% were worried about skin cancer
- 46% are not familiar with the symptoms of skin cancer.
Encourage Regular Skin Checks
Remind clients to monitor their skin regularly for any changes like a new mole or spot. Make sure they know to report any concerns to their GP. Early detection of skin cancer can significantly improve outcomes, so encourage them to be proactive about their skin health.
Advise clients on sun safety to improve their knowledge and help them stay sun safe.
