What is turmeric?

Turmeric has been used as a skincare treat for centuries. With a wealth of benefits for the skin and hair, this ingredient can completely transform your complexion. Turmeric is part of the ginger family and was first found in India. It can be eaten dried or fresh, but it’s also commonly ground into a powder. Today we’ll look at the benefits of turmeric for the skin.

The health benefits of turmeric

As well as boosting blood circulation, settling a poorly tummy and healing wounds, turmeric has an amazing effect on the skin. Boasting anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant properties, turmeric is fantastic for treating many skin issues.

Turmeric for the skin

Due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, consuming turmeric may aid a clear, youthful complexion. Skin ageing is often linked to chronic inflammation and free radicals – molecules that harm cells to promote fine lines and wrinkles. By consuming a substance with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, inflammation and free radical damage is reduced for a clearer, healthier complexion.

Turmeric is also beneficial for aiding skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can block the inflammation these issues cause. Furthermore, turmeric helps to heal the skin from dryness, cracking and irritation.
