We are kicking off our ‘Meet the Trainers’ series with in-house trainer Shannon. She has trained lots of beauty therapists in Microdermabrasion, Intense Pulsed Light, and Collagen Lift in her time with SkinBase. We asked her a couple of questions so you can gain an insight into the day to day life of a SkinBase trainer.
1. Why did you want to become a SkinBase trainer?
I fell in love with the industry when I started in beauty and spas. I was surprised as previously I was adamant that you would never find me doing beauty – how wrong I was! When the opportunity arose to become a SkinBase trainer, it definitely felt like the right progression. I have been fortunate enough to be trained by amazing, influential women in the industry and have worked for numerous award-winning spas and salons. So, whilst I’m still young in my career, I felt I had a lot to give back at SkinBase whilst continuing my professional development with them.
2. What do you love about training beauty therapists?
There are many reasons that I enjoy training SkinBase therapists. I love learning from everyone I meet. It is so interesting meeting people in the beauty industry as they all come from so many different professional backgrounds. I am continuously learning while I teach new people, picking up tips and tricks as I go along whilst passing on my own. I find it very rewarding seeing our therapists thrive and do well in their own careers.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day usually includes training, whether it’s IPL, Collagen Lift or Microdermabrasion. We get a good mixture of the three, so there is always something new to do. I split my time between the office and being on the road delivering training. Wherever I am, there is always admin to complete and future training sessions for the diary. No day is the same, as I visit new salons and meet new therapists, which makes the role very interesting. In the office, there is also lots of variation to the role. Whether it is adding to course materials, answering customer queries, contributing to blogs or helping to create social content.
