Beauty burnout is a widespread problem and it is necessary to have steps in place to avoid the stress cycle. Long days, physical demands and a highly stressful environment means burnout in the industry is very common. Burnout that goes unrecognised or untreated can leave you stressed, anxious and fatigued. Never mind dissatisfied and depressed!  So what should you do? Follow our tips:

Physical & Mental Health

Check in with your physical and mental health every day – and prioritise self-care.  Are you getting enough sleep? Eating healthy food? Exercising and enjoying it? Remember to take time out for yourself – and get enough sleep too. Burnout can creep up without you realising.

Work/Life Balance

Make sure you take time for yourself. Create a schedule that allows a good work/life balance. Make sure you are scheduling time in your day to have a break and to eat your lunch.  Consider taking a walk outside when you have a gap between clients – and allow time every week to take some time off to relax and recharge.

Set Boundaries

Don’t let work take over your life. Balance is key. Reply to clients, promote on social media and do work-related tasks within set working hours. You do not have to be on duty 24/7. Turn your phone off in the evenings so you have uninterrupted time with your loved ones. Late messages can wait until the morning! Learn how to say no.

Speak Up

Communicate with your boss and team when you are feeling burnt out. They won’t know you need something to change unless you tell them. If you are the boss, lead by example! Consider introducing a pre or post-work yoga session for all employees. Encourage your team to take regular breaks and to get fresh air during the work day.

Relaxation 

Find new ways to help yourself. Consider taking up a hobby you enjoy and try meditation to minimise stress. Investing your spare time in things you are passionate about helps to keep the balance. Plan holidays so you have a solid break to look forward to. It is possible to avoid burnout as a skincare therapist. Prevent burnout by stopping stress before it stops you.
