For those experiencing menopause, it is often easier to suffer in silence than it is to ask for help. The more we talk about menopause, the sooner things will change. At SkinBase, we know that individuals experiencing menopause can massively improve their quality of living and transform their lives by investing in themselves. Let’s take a look at our most recent SkinBase Spotlight – Microdermabrasion for Menopausal Skin with Emily Hendzel.

Treating Menopausal Skin with SkinBase
Our October theme for the Transformation of the Year competition is Transform. October is also Menopause Awareness Month. So, we are taking a closer look at how SkinBase treatments can help clients to navigate the changes that occur during menopause, so they can transform their complexions.
Menopause Symptoms
Menopausal skin can feel unfamiliar, with many symptoms. Dryness, dullness, acne… The list goes on! These changes can feel frustrating and out of your control, but the truth is, you’re not alone. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, booking a consultation with a SkinBase Therapist is the first step on the journey to better skin
Q: What changes in the skin do clients experiencing menopause most commonly come to you with, and how do you approach your consultations to address these concerns?
“The most common skin conditions my clients come in with due to the menopause are dryness, loss of firmness and an uneven skin tone, each of which contributes to an overall dullness. First I reassure clients that I can help and second, I reassure them that this is very common, due to declining collagen and oestrogen levels. Together we pinpoint the main areas of concern and ensure it is safe for me to carry out microdermabrasion, as some symptoms of the menopause in certain clients can cause flares of existing skin conditions, such as rosacea and flushing.”

Microdermabrasion for Menopausal Skin: The Consultation
A professional skincare consultation gives you the time and space to talk through your concerns with someone who understands what’s happening beneath the surface. It’s not about a quick fix. It’s about building a treatment plan that supports your skin through this natural transition. With the right guidance, your skin can glow again.
Q: How do you reassure clients who may feel self-conscious about the effects of menopause on their skin before starting treatments?
“During a consultation I reassure clients by showing them examples of other clients progression (with their consent) to demonstrate the benefits of Microdermabrasion. I also talk them through each step of the treatment, the products used and any potential side effects. The main point I always like to get across is that MD leaves your skin feeling glowing and hydrated which in most cases is exactly what menopausal skin needs. I’ve always had incredible feedback not only on MD but also on the SkinBase products.”
Managing Expectations
When it comes to treating skin affected by hormonal changes, the most meaningful transformations happen gradually, with consistency and care. Menopause can bring complex challenges, but thankfully there are effective treatments that can restore radiance, strengthen skin, and help you transform back into yourself. Your SkinBase therapist will talk you through what improvements are possible and how long it may take to see results. Setting clear, realistic expectations means you’ll feel supported and in control of your skin journey. Remember, the small steps add up to a big shift, in both your skin and your confidence.
Q: What steps do you take to set realistic but encouraging expectations for clients who are hoping to see improvements in skin affected by hormonal changes?
“As with many aspects of the menopause and hormonal changes, it is a journey and at home skincare is just as important as having a course of Microdermabrasion. To this effect, as well as showing client testimonials, I would always recommend a course of 6 treatments, at home cleansing, SPF, followed by maintenance treatments on a monthly basis.”

Consistency is Key
Consistency is key when it comes to treating menopausal skin, and having the support of a SkinBase therapist makes all the difference. They’re there to guide you: tracking progress with photos, adjusting your treatment plan if needed, and celebrating even the smallest improvements.
Q: Menopause can cause fluctuations in skin condition. How do you help clients stay consistent and motivated through a course of treatments?
“To ensure clients stay motivated with their course of treatments, we always start by booking in the course of 6 to ensure they have dates to work towards. We go through the effects the treatment can have (e.g. any redness), meaning they leave with knowledge and confidence if any adverse side effects occur. I am also always on hand to answer any client questions post appointment.”
Microdermabrasion for Menopausal Skin: A Holistic Approach
Healthy skin is shaped by the choices you make every day. That’s why our SkinBase therapists take a holistic approach, helping you understand how lifestyle factors can influence skin health and treatment success. Menopause can wreak havoc across the body, which is why it’s more important than ever to treat the skin from the inside out. Staying hydrated, managing stress, eating nutrient-rich foods, and understanding how hormones affect your complexion can significantly improve your results and how you feel overall.

Q: SkinBase treatments can be enhanced with a holistic approach. Do you talk to your clients about factors like hormone balance, stress management, nutrition, or hydration alongside their treatments?
“A holistic approach is something I implement into my everyday life, so it is something I feel confident and competent talking about with my clients. I really try to encourage my clients to take small steps with movement, sunlight, balanced diet and hydration in such a way that they do not feel overwhelmed. If they feel better within themselves this usually can lead to them feeling better about their physical appearance too.”
Q: Once a client has completed a treatment plan, what at-home care or ongoing professional treatments do you recommend to maintain results during and after menopause?
“I cannot recommend enough to continue with the basics: double cleanse, moisturise and use SPF. I find this so easy to recommend because it’s something that always helps with results no matter how many paid treatments a client has. I also recognise that not everyone can continue with paid treatments so I always say to get in contact with me if they need any advice with products.”

SkinBase Transformation of the Year
Every year we search to find the ‘SkinBase Transformation of the Year’. The very best transformation from completing a course of SkinBase treatments. Book your course of SkinBase Microdermabrasion, Hydro, IPL or Collagen Lift treatments with a SkinBase therapist and it could be you jetting off on a Caribbean Holiday!
Q: How do you encourage clients to feel proud and confident enough to share their journey and results in our SkinBase Transformation competition?
“I explain to my client that this is a journey and the way you will feel at the end will shine through. I love to show them other SkinBase client images as this helps to show them they are not alone with their skin concerns. I never put any pressure on my clients to publicly share their journey but I make sure I reinforce any positive changes they see.”
Q: How does it feel to be a Transformation of the Year 2025 Finalist?
“Being a 2025 SkinBase finalist has filled me with so much pride. This recognition has raised my confidence in the work that I carry outand reinforces the message I continue to share with my clients about the benefits of this treatment. So far the results have spoken for themselves and I love sharing Microdermabrasion with each client!”
