Skin Laxity – What Causes It and How Can We Treat It?

Our bodies produce plenty of collagen and elastin when we are young. That’s why young skin looks firm and our features are more pronounced.

Our bodies produce plenty of collagen and elastin when we are young. That’s why young skin looks firm and plump and our features are more pronounced.

Both collagen and elastin production begin to diminish as we get older. This causes the skin to lose its firmness and elasticity. You might find you develop loose skin around your neck or bags under your eyes.

If you lose weight when you’re older you can also end up with loose skin around your jowls. This is because the lack of collagen and elastin mean your skin doesn’t ping back into place.

It’s not all bad news though, because there are treatments available that will tighten and firm up your skin leaving it looking younger and fresher.

Radio Frequency

Radio Frequency treatment is carried out by applying a cosmetic gel to your face and then using a warm wand which is passed over your face. The wand gradually heats up to around 40ºC. This temperature stimulates the skin to increase the production of collagen and at the same time tightens up the elastin fibres and promotes a reduction in fat cells.

You’re recommended to have at least 6 sessions at 1 or 2 a week and then a maintenance session every 4 to 6 weeks. The procedure is painless, and you’ll notice an improvement in the firmness of your skin as the collagen gets to work.

Collagen Lift Treatments

Collagen Lift treatment is similar to the Radio Frequency procedure. Your skin is treated by delivering energy waves from a hand-held device deep into your skin. It too reduces fat cells, tightens up the elastin fibres and encourages collagen growth. You’ll notice the difference after just one session. Once you’ve finished a set of treatments the results last up to two years, so it’s a long-lasting, non-invasive treatment that gives you fast results.
