Are you at a loss to know how you should be treating dry skin? Dry skin is a real nuisance, and doesn’t look very nice either. At worst, it can crack, leaving you with sore, red patches. But there are some simple steps that can help improve the condition of your skin. Try these tips for treating dry skin…

Exfoliation

Your dry skin needs exfoliating to help improve it, as you need to get rid of those dead dry cells. There’s no sense in trying to throw moisture at dead skin. Avoid products that are harsh, as it will further irritate your skin instead of helping it retain moisture. Use a gentle scrub, and then follow up with your moisturiser. Use a scrub once a week.

Water temperature

Do you love a long soak in a hot bath? The problem with hot baths and showers is that they take the oil out of your skin. Switch to warm temperatures instead, and don’t soak in the tub for hours. Showers are definitely better if you have dry skin. And moisturise while your skin is still slightly damp, as the cream will be better absorbed and retained.

Hydration

Dry skin needs plenty of hydration from moisturisers. Use a lovely thick cream, and make sure that it is absorbed well. Apply more if necessary. Reapply regularly, especially after you wash your hands; they will soon get dry and stripped of moisture otherwise. If your hands are in water frequently, use gloves or apply a barrier cream to protect them.

Right products

The first step in treating dry skin is to check that you are using the right products. Dry skin needs creams and lotions with a thicker consistency. Avoid using anything that is too harsh, in case it makes your skin worse. Ingredients like lanolin, mineral oil and glycerin will all help your skin retain moisture.

Moisturise regularly

I have to confess to being a bit slapdash about applying moisturiser, so it’s no wonder that my skin tends to get a bit dry. I really do need to be more consistent and apply every day. Get into the habit of moisturising regularly to stop your skin from getting dry, and always apply cream after washing your hands. It’s helpful to keep a bottle of hand cream in your bag.

Client Testimonial: “Jodie is extremely professional and knowledgeable throughout the IPL treatment sessions. She explains the process and what to expect so that you are put at ease from the first consultation. During my IPL sessions, Jodie marked up the areas and avoided any moles or damaged skin, then preps using the cooler handle before a light shot. The light shot itself really doesn’t hurt, it’s done in seconds. The fact the skin is cooled first makes this an easy process to tolerate. I genuinely didn’t feel in pain at all and Jodie applied a lovely aloe balm to soothe the skin straight away. If anything I felt my appointments were more of a therapy as I knew I would be hair free come my holiday. After each session I came away feeling the progress getting better and better and by week 5 there was hardly any hair growth. I didn’t feel the need to shave anymore. I felt more confident and there is much less maintenance at home now which means I have more time for other things. I would highly recommend IPL hair removal by SkinBase and with Jodie as she made me feel at ease from the moment I asked about it and the difference it makes is life changing for someone who wasn’t so confident in her skin. I can’t wait for Summer and my holiday. Thanks Jodie & SkinBase.”
