Ingrown hairs an issue for you?

Ingrown hairs are pretty much a fact of life for some people. If you’re fed up and looking for a solution we’ve got a couple of treatments that just might help. Firstly let’s take a look at what causes an ingrown hair. What causes ingrown hairs? An ingrown hair is a hair which has curled in on itself and grown back under the skin surface. They can happen if the hair follicle is clogged stopping the hair from growing out of the follicle in a conventional way. The hair is forced sideways growing into the skin. The result is usually a raised red spot which can be itchy and sore and can, on occasion, turn into a pus-filled sore. Anyone can get them but people with coarse or curly hair are more susceptible. Areas where you might shave, are also more likely to see ingrown hairs; beards, legs, armpits and pubic areas. What can we do to help? Exfoliate. A clogged hair follicle caused by a build-up of dead skin cells can be rectified with exfoliation to remove the dead skin. Women suffering from irritated skin on the bikini line would benefit from a course of SkinBase microdermabrasion to exfoliate and unblock pores and prevent future occurrences. For men, a treatment like microdermabrasion will not only help to prevent any ingrown hairs from shaving but will also exfoliate the dead skin build up that might be present around the hair follicle.

That rough, bumpy feeling will be buffed away leaving soft smooth skin and stop any pesky ingrown hairs. In between treatments, an at-home exfoliant should be used to prevent any build up. Prevention

Hair removal methods like waxing and shaving can cause or exasperate ingrown hairs. With SkinBase IPL permanent hair reduction the hair follicle is disabled and unable to produce a new hair. To achieve the most permanent results a course of treatments is required. Typically 6-10 treatments may be needed at intervals of 4-6 weeks to see long-lasting results. Any hair re-growth you do have will be softer and finer than before reducing the likelihood of ingrown hairs or any hairs for that matter! Client Testimonial: “Jodie is extremely professional and knowledgeable throughout the IPL treatment sessions. She explains the process and what to expect so that you are put at ease from the first consultation. During my IPL sessions, Jodie marked up the areas and avoided any moles or damaged skin, then preps using the cooler handle before a light shot. The light shot itself really doesn’t hurt, it’s done in seconds. The fact the skin is cooled first makes this an easy process to tolerate. I genuinely didn’t feel in pain at all and Jodie applied a lovely aloe balm to soothe the skin straight away. If anything I felt my appointments were more of a therapy as I knew I would be hair free come my holiday. After each session I came away feeling the progress getting better and better and by week 5 there was hardly any hair growth. I didn’t feel the need to shave anymore. I felt more confident and there is much less maintenance at home now which means I have more time for other things. I would highly recommend IPL hair removal by SkinBase and with Jodie as she made me feel at ease from the moment I asked about it and the difference it makes is life changing for someone who wasn’t so confident in her skin. I can’t wait for Summer and my holiday. Thanks Jodie & SkinBase.”
