Microdermabrasion is a gentle procedure that gently removes the top layer of skin. It helps to even out skin tone, fade acne scars and brighten a dull complexion. Microfine crystals resurface the skin and any debris is vacuumed up at the same time. To get the best results, it is important to prepare your skin properly. Let’s take a look at how best to prep your skin for a microdermabrasion treatment.

Prep Your Skin For a Microdermabrasion Treatment
Read on to find out our top 5 tips for prepping your skin and maximising your results.
1. Minimise Sun Exposure
At least one week leading up to your first treatment, stay out of the sun and stay protected with SPF. Avoid any tanning beds, self-tan – and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you’re outside.
2. Keep Skin Hydrated
A week before your first Microdermabrasion treatment, be more aware of keeping your skin hydrated. Apply a gentle moisturiser and hydrate from within by drinking plenty of water. Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours.
3. Avoid Exfoliation
Stop using any exfoliating products at least 3-5 days before your treatment. Microdermabrasion is an effective exfoliation and you never want to over-exfoliate skin. Avoid all retinoids and glycolic or lactic acid ingredients. Over-exfoliation can damage the skin barrier and lead to irritation, redness and breakouts.
4. Avoid Hair Removal
Before your treatment, you should avoid all types of hair removal. Don’t have any laser or IPL hair removal for at least 2 weeks before. If you are a waxer, don’t do it for at least 24-36 hours before your scheduled appointment. Don’t shave or use tweezers either.
5. Remove Makeup
When you have a MD treatment booked, keep your face clean and don’t wear any makeup. Avoid using any other skin products beforehand.
