Turmeric

Turmeric is full of benefits for the skin, and as such is a highly popular natural skincare ingredient. Find out how you can use turmeric for ageing skin to even out skin tone. When it comes to unwanted hair, turmeric also has a solution. Simply mix three teaspoons of turmeric with one teaspoon of milk, and stir to create a paste. Once your paste is ready, apply it evenly to any areas of the skin where you have unwanted hair. The paste acts similarly to a glue, sticking to the unwanted hair so it can be removed. Leave the mixture on for around 20 minutes, until it is dry, and remove using circular motions with a clean washcloth. The ‘glued’ hairs should be removed from the skin with the paste. Repeating this method weekly should result in finer hair growth.

Sugar

Sugar waxing is one of the more instant natural remedies for unwanted hair removal and uses minimal ingredients. Hair must be at least a quarter of an inch long for successful sugar waxing, so wait until you have reached this point. It is important to note that sugar waxing may not be for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin, sunburns, open wounds or if you are using a topical retinoid or retinol cream. When you are ready, you will only need one cup of white sugar, 1 tablespoon of lemon and 2 tablespoons of water. Simply mix the ingredients together in a saucepan on low heat until it forms a syrup-like consistency. Once your mixture is ready, wait for it to cool down before applying to the skin, and make sure the treatment area is clean and dry. When it is safe to handle, apply it to the skin in the direction of hair growth, and apply a piece of fabric on top. After a few seconds, hold the skin taut and pull the fabric upward to remove the hair. You can remove any wax residue with a warm washcloth. Aftercare is the same as after having a professional waxing treatment, so ensure you avoid working out or taking a hot bath for 24 hours.

Papaya

Papaya is one of the longer term natural remedies for unwanted hair removal. Applying a papaya paste to the skin won’t instantly remove unwanted hair. However, papaya contains a papain enzyme, which weakens the hair follicles to minimise future hair growth. All you have to do is mix 2 tablespoons of mashed papaya with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, and apply to the skin. Leave the mixture on the treatment area for 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. For the best results, you can repeat the process multiple times per week.

Egg

Eggs are also great natural remedies for unwanted hair, and are very easy to get your hands on. Add one egg to one tablespoon of lemon, and half a tablespoon of cornflour and stir into a thick paste. Apply the paste wherever you have unwanted hair to remove, and leave to set for 15 minutes. Then, the paste can be peeled off, and the unwanted hair should be removed with it. You can repeat this process 2-3 times a week.

Natural Remedies for Unwanted Hair

There are many natural remedies for unwanted hair. While these remedies are generally safe for most people, it’s important to carry out a patch test of the ingredients first to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction. After using a natural remedy, the skin may be sensitive, so ensure you only use gentle and soothing products. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to consult with a skincare professional if you have persistent skin concerns. Find out how hair removal treatments can help here.
