There are a number of features of an IPL machine that will determine its effectiveness. SkinBase IPL is proven to be effective and a great investment for your business.
Wavelengths
Wavelengths are important because they affects the machine’s ability to target the different chromophores. These are the targets within the skin that IPL is used for. For example, the melanin in the hair during hair removal. The SkinBase IPL system can use wavelengths of between 500-1000nm.
Energy Density
Energy density is measured in joules per cm2. Each IPL pulse delivers this amount of energy. SkinBase IPL has a capacity to deliver 110 joules/cm2. It is not always necessary for the machine to use its full power. Many treatments require a lot less depending on hair colour, skin type and other factors. So pulse width is important too. Changing the pulse width and energy density allows the machine to tailor accurate levels for each client.
Pulse Width
This is how long the pulse lasts for. IPL machines operate with a long pulse duration of 1-50 milliseconds. This might not seem very long, but is enough to penetrate deep within the skin. This produces the thermal heating required in the chromophore to cause a permanent change (like removal of hair).
Pulse Repetition
This is how long it takes for the machine to be able to fire off another pulse. For the SkinBase IPL system this is 3 seconds. During treatment with SkinBase IPL you will alternate use with the cooling cryo-handset. This means 3 seconds is the perfect length of time between shots. Don’t worry, this won’t slow down your treatment time.
Why a Cryo-Handset?
The SkinBase IPL system has two handsets. One is to deliver the IPL pulses while the other is to cool the skin for treatment. Cooling the skin allows higher power levels to be used while still maintaining your client’s comfort.
Ease of Use
SkinBase IPL has a full colour-touch screen that guides you through setting the correct treatment for your client. You won’t need to refer to a chart or diagram. Enter your client’s details and the machine will work out the most accurate and effective levels for you.
Why now?
Post-summer is the best time to begin offering IPL to your clients. Summer tans have worn off and the skin is mostly covered up as the cold weather arrives. Clients who begin now will also be hair free ready for summer 2025.
