Transformation 26 Finalist: Karma Beauty Therapy

Our next Salon Spotlight feature for March is focused on SkinBase Therapist Nina. Nina and her Collagen Lift client have gone all the way to the Transformation of the Year 2026 final!

Nina has 30 years of experience in the beauty industry, and has been with SkinBase since 2012. She now offers Microdermabrasion, Hydro and Collagen Lift treatments in Fareham, Hampshire.

Thank you for talking to us today Nina, it’s so great to talk to one of our Transformation 26 Finalists, and someone with such a wealth of experience!

“I’ve been with SkinBase for such a long time, I actually can’t remember how many years it’s been. I first started using the Microdermabrasion machine, then took on the Collagen Lift and I now offer Hydro facials as well. All of the facials are so popular, my clients absolutely love them. I’ve had some great transformations over the years.”

Q: How does it feel to be a Transformation of the Year finalist?

“I’ve tried quite a few times but obviously there’s such great competition out there with with the results of all the machines so it’s quite hard. I was absolutely over the moon, I’m so happy to be in the final, it’s such a great achievement. Both me and my client are just absolutely thrilled to be recognised for the achievement and the prizes are amazing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”

Q: What challenges did your client face before starting their SkinBase journey?

My February transformation client wanted to really work on her neck area. It was an area that was really bothering her, and her daughter was getting married. She approached me and said is there anything I can do particularly for this area? So I went through how the Collagen Lift worked, how often she would need to come in, so that she would get a great result. And she booked in straight away. She was desperately wanting to improve this area and she’s absolutely over the moon with the results.

Q: At the consultation stage, what made you confident this client would be suitable for SkinBase Collagen Lift

“Having used the Collagen Lift machine for quite some time, I knew that this area that she was really concerned about was going to get some improvement. Manual facials are obviously great but the Collagen Lift really, really gets that tightening effect happening. She was really happy to go with my advice.”

Q: At what point did you start to see noticeable changes in her skin?

“I gave her a treatment plan and I advised her that ideally she would need to come twice a week if she were to get the best results. She was amazing when she came in, she found it very comfortable. I’d say after three or four treatments we started to really notice such a difference in that neck area that she was bothered about.”

Q: What key habits did the client commit to that made the biggest difference?

“I think the biggest commitment that she made was to really stick to the facials. She went with my advice, having them twice a week. I said to try and maintain a healthy balanced diet and really hydrate her skin and look after her skin and she would get brilliant benefits. She was really strict with her home care routine and kept her skin really hydrated.”

Q: How do you support clients in feeling confident enough to enter their results into the competition?

I’m always really enthusiastic when I get great results from the treatments. I encourage the clients that they can enter the competition if they want to, it’s entirely their decision. I explain the benefits, and that there are some amazing prizes that you can win. I always give my client the option that they don’t have to show their whole face. So they can be anonymous and we can just use certain areas. I think when clients have such a dramatic result, they’re happy for you to go forward with putting these pictures into the competition to achieve great things.

Q: What advice would you give to therapists thinking about entering the Transformation of the Year competition?

I would just say to any therapist that is looking to go into the competition, just always make sure that you take those before photos, because you don’t know what sort of transition that you’re going to get after. So, you’ve always got that to look back on. I would recommend to anyone to just go for it. Who knows where you could end up?

Q: How did documenting progress (photos and results) help both you and the client?

I think it is so important to document the before and after photos of a Collagen Lift facial because it is quite gradual. Clients, I think, don’t always notice such a difference at the time. I’ve had some really good results with the machine and if I didn’t have those before and after photos, I don’t think the client would have really believed the differences, because they’re looking at their skin every day in the mirror. The changes can be quite significant without them actually realising quite how much they’ve achieved.

Q: Any tips for getting great before and after shots?

I always try and take my before and after photos in the same positions. So, when we look back they are the exact same picture and the client can see that. I look back at the before photos and I make sure that the after ones are exactly the same.

Q: How has the Transformation of the Year competition benefitted your business?

“Being in the final has actually made a lot of my clients realise that the treatment actually works. So I’ve had lots of inquiries since, and lots of interest through my website. It’s given me quite a few Collagen Lift courses to come, so hopefully I will have another transformation soon!”

Q: Finally, what is your number one skincare tip for maintaining a fresh, glowing complexion year-round?

“The best skincare tip that I could give to anyone, that I do give to all of my clients and I am completely passionate about, is to wear SPF all year round. Every single day. The ageing effects from the sun are huge, and a lot of clients don’t realise this. It’s really damaging to the collagen and the DNA of our skin. I am such an advocate for wearing SPF.”
