It’s acne awareness month and these easy tips can help banish those blemishes and effectively conceal your acne scars. These beauty tricks will help to make concealing blemishes and acne scars easier.

1. Take good care of your skin

Pimples and blemishes are often unavoidable but prevention, wherever possible, is better than cure. Ensure you have a good skin care routine in place that you follow daily. At the very least, aim to cleanse and moisturise your skin twice daily. Make sure you remove your makeup before cleansing at night; otherwise, washing your face with cleanser will only remove the makeup and not actually cleanse the skin.

2. Prep and prime

Before applying your makeup, make sure that your skin is clean and moisturised. To enhance the appearance of your makeup and increase its staying power, apply a primer before applying any makeup. Primers help to fill in lines and even out the surface texture of the skin due to the silicone base. It makes your makeup stay true to the skin’s actual colour and also have better staying power.

3. Choose the right shade of concealer

If you choose a concealer that does not fully match your skin tone, unfortunately, it will only make the blemish or acne scar stand out more. Aim to find a shade that is as close as possible to your natural skin colour. If you are struggling to find one that matches your skin tone exactly, then one shade lighter than your natural colour is the next best thing and whatever you do ladies, don’t choose a darker shade as scars and pimples will stand out like a sore thumb!

4. Less is more with concealer

If you have a really bad blemish, it’s understandable that you’ll consider lathering it in concealer to try and hide it, but cakey makeup can make acne scars appear much more visible. Apply just enough to spread a light layer over the area you need to conceal. It’s better to start with a tiny little bit and then build up gradually, but it’s more difficult to take away what you’ve already applied.

5. Fingertips for application

Fingertips are an excellent tool when it comes to applying makeup as they help to warm the product so that it goes on more easily. Your ring finger applies the perfect amount of pressure for applying concealer. Simply use quick and light tapping motions to evenly blend out the concealer. And don’t forget to ensure your hands are clean first so you don’t cover your face in bacteria.

6. Foundation first

I usually find that if I apply concealer before my foundation, a lot of it gets wiped away with my foundation brush or sponge, meaning I have to go back and apply more concealer. So why not start with foundation and save yourself the trouble and then follow with concealer!  For ultimate staying power, it’s best to set your foundation and concealer with a powder as it keeps everything in place and allows it to last throughout the day.

Client Testimonial: “Jodie is extremely professional and knowledgeable throughout the IPL treatment sessions. She explains the process and what to expect so that you are put at ease from the first consultation. During my IPL sessions, Jodie marked up the areas and avoided any moles or damaged skin, then preps using the cooler handle before a light shot. The light shot itself really doesn’t hurt, it’s done in seconds. The fact the skin is cooled first makes this an easy process to tolerate. I genuinely didn’t feel in pain at all and Jodie applied a lovely aloe balm to soothe the skin straight away. If anything I felt my appointments were more of a therapy as I knew I would be hair free come my holiday. After each session I came away feeling the progress getting better and better and by week 5 there was hardly any hair growth. I didn’t feel the need to shave anymore. I felt more confident and there is much less maintenance at home now which means I have more time for other things. I would highly recommend IPL hair removal by SkinBase and with Jodie as she made me feel at ease from the moment I asked about it and the difference it makes is life changing for someone who wasn’t so confident in her skin. I can’t wait for Summer and my holiday. Thanks Jodie & SkinBase.”
