“In the last 10 years I have seen a significant increase in sales to male clients.”
As Becky notes, over the last decade there has been a cultural shift in society. More men are embracing skincare than ever before thanks to:
- The rise of social media influence & the visibility of highly groomed influencers.
- Easier access to skincare information and products online.
- A greater awareness of health and wellness, particularly post-pandemic.
In today’s image-conscious world, appearances impact both professional and social perceptions. Skincare has become an essential part of many men’s daily routines. However, some men find it difficult to make the move from at home skincare, to professional treatments.
“He was a newbie to facials so he was a little apprehensive, I said trust me, trust the process.”
Wes was one of those men, until his desire to look good on his wedding day pushed him to contact Becky for some help. Having worked with many male clients throughout her career, Becky knew at this point her main goal was to make Wes felt at ease, by dispelling his apprehension and uncertainty with clear communication and support during the consultation.
“I’ve found with male clients they need you to explain the process from start to finish.”
The client consultation is your opportunity to build trust and a relationship while working out exactly what your client’s skincare goals are. When it comes to treating male clients, one of the best ways to deal with nerves is to talk them through the treatment step by step. What is involved? How does it work? Answer any questions they have, and answer any questions they might not know they have! Take the time to learn as much as you can about your client and their lifestyle, so you can manage expectations and start a dialogue about healthy habits.
“When I explain about how important homecare is too, they absolutely take it on board.”
Often, Becky notes, male clients are unfamiliar with skincare products as well as treatments, so the consultation is also the perfect opportunity to educate them about homeware, and recommend any products they may need to maximise their results. All clients appreciate authentic recommendations when it comes to aftercare. Make sure you are transparent about suitability, costs and benefits. When you become a SkinBase Therapist, you can retail the SkinBase Essentials Range, to make your client’s skincare journey even easier.
Remember: You do not have to feel pushy. A homecare discussion is a key part of the consultation process. Value your client by making recommendations based on your professional knowledge and training.

“I always take before and after photos and this way they can see the difference for themselves and then – they are hooked!”
While some people prefer to understand how a treatment will make them feel, and know how they can benefit in the long term, others live and shop in the now. Often, men fall into this short-term category. These ‘short-term shoppers’ often appreciate when information is backed up with proof, so don’t forget to take before and after images for your clients. Once their course is complete, and they have achieved their fabulous results, you can also enter them into the Transformation of the Year 2025 competition.
“My approach is ‘feel good and look like you, naturally!’”
Social media is empowering more men to address their skin concerns, and the range of SkinBase treatments are the perfect tools to help make that happen. A non-surgical approach allows your clients to look like themselves, just on their very best day. Find out more about the SkinBase Machines and treatments in our free guide.
