Look After the Skin You’re In

Not only is our skin the body’s biggest organ, but it’s also our body’s first line of defence. Therefore, it’s vital that we take the time and effort to look after it correctly.

Not only is our skin the body’s biggest organ, but it’s also our body’s first line of defence. Therefore, it’s vital that we take the time and effort to look after it correctly.

As well as acting as a protective shield against heat, light, injury, and infection, our amazing skin also regulates body temperature, stores water and fat, and prevents the entry of bacteria. Wonderful stuff, right?

What Affects Our Skin?

Ageing skin is influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. But what exactly does this mean?

Intrinsic ageing is genetically determined, it’s the chronological ageing that happens over time. There is very little we can do about the intrinsic rate of skin ageing. Your ethnicity, hormonal and anatomical differences will affect what this intrinsic rate is.

But the good news is that we have more control over our skin when it comes to the extrinsic factors. These include, but are not limited to, exposure to UV, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption and diet. The easiest way you can protect your skin correctly is by wearing an SPF at all times – yes, even in September!

Keep Your Skin Healthy

Keeping your skin healthy can be done in many ways. First of all, it’s vital to introduce a daily skin regime and stick to it. This regime should include your entire body and not just your face as it’s essential to care for your skin all over.

A great way to start is by exfoliating (our award-winning facial is a great choice!), using an SPF, feeding your skin through reduced sugar intake, and by consuming natural fats. You may even want to introduce more collagen to your routine, for example, a collagen lift treatment will create new collagen by stimulating a wound healing response to flood the skin with new collagen. Treat your skin right to glow from the inside out!
