Salon Spotlight: Moorlands Beauty

Thank you for talking to us today Theresa, it’s so great to talk to one of our longstanding therapists, and someone with such a wealth of experience!

Q: What does reaching 1,000 SkinBase Collagen Lift treatments mean to you?

Well, reaching that fantastic figure has just confirmed to me how much doing the Collagen Lift treatments has actually grown my business. And it’s not just a short-term quick treatment, but one that’s sustainable for regular clients’ maintenance appointments. And that has made a massive difference to my salon growth.

Q: Can you remember your very first SkinBase treatment? How does it compare to where you are now?

Well, I started with microdermabrasion, and that was a long time ago now. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first salons to take on Collagen Lift. Using SkinBase treatments helped me realise that I could grow my business and provide something a little bit extra that I couldn’t achieve from just skin treatments without equipment. And that was the beginning.

Q: You’ve been a dedicated SkinBase customer for years – what is it about the company that has earned your loyalty?

Well, SkinBase is very unique in that you make all the treatments that you offer available to solo therapists and small salons. Whereas many equipment providers out there are only aimed at larger salons that can do many, many treatments. And that was what really attracted me to SkinBase in the first place.

Q: How has being part of the SkinBase community supported you in growing your business?

The SkinBase community has genuinely been such a big support in growing my business over the years. As a salon owner, it can sometimes feel that you’re doing everything on your own, but having that community behind you makes a huge difference. There’s always someone who understands the journey that you’re going through. There are therapists on there with many years of experience in using the SkinBase equipment, as well as really knowledgeable educators who are always happy to share advice and tips. That support is totally invaluable and it does feel like you’re actually part of something bigger.

Q: What advice would you give to a therapist just starting their SkinBase journey?

My advice would be for any therapist who’s just starting with SkinBase, really make the most of all the support that is available to you. There is so much support out there from the educators, who are incredibly knowledgeable, to the therapist community. You’re never on your own with it. The Knowledge Base for marketing support and treatment resources that are all there to help you, not just to learn but to grow your business as well. My biggest tip is don’t be afraid to ask questions. Get involved and use everything that is there that’s available for you. Keep going – you won’t regret it.

Q: What advice would you give to therapists thinking about entering the Transformation of the Year competition?

Just go for it. You’ve honestly got nothing to lose, and everything to gain. The results that you’re achieving for your clients really deserve to be celebrated. Even if you don’t win, the competition process in itself is so valuable for you and your business. It will help you recognise the incredible work that you’re doing, build your confidence and gives you amazing content to showcase your own treatments. And ultimately, it can really help you grow as a person. So don’t overthink it, just put yourself out there and go for it.

Q: What’s the most common skin concern you treat, and how has SkinBase helped you address it?

If I think about who my typical client is in the salon, being a therapist that’s almost 60 myself, my typical client is much more mature and ageing. And the problems that I experience with my skin over the years is very similar to what my clients experience. SkinBase has been amazing because it offers a variety of treatment solutions. So, we’re able to really personalise what we do for each of our clients, and SkinBase has the different support mechanisms to help us with that. Again, the community support can give you all therapists across all range of situations and experiences a nd there are experts at SkinBase head office who are there to help you too. So there’s lots of ways that SkinBase support us as therapists with each of the treatments.

Q: How do you attract the right clients for SkinBase treatments, and what do you think makes clients feel confident choosing you for their skin journey?

How I attract the right clients is really by focusing on clients’ skin concerns first, rather than just doing a treatment.Whether that be through social media, or face-to-face consultations, I always lead with my professional knowledge and really listen to what the client is struggling with. For most clients, their main concern isn’t the treatment, it’s their skin. So it’s about helping them understand what’s going on, why they’re experiencing those problems with their skin, and then what we can do to support them. Remember, providing the right kind of advice for skin problems that our clients have is not just about what you do in the salon. It’s about everything that the client does, which includes their lifestyle, their habits, and their skincare routines.

Q: How do you manage expectations while still inspiring confidence in results?

For me, it’s about finding the balance between being realistic but inspiring client confidence as well. Every client’s skin is very different. So, I’m always completely honest with the results they may get and in managing their expectations. But, at the same time, it’s about showing them what’s possible. I explain that it’s a two-way journey. I’m here to guide and support them with the right treatments. but also explaining how their lifestyle, habits and health factors have also played a big part in their skin issues in the past. We don’t perform miracles, but we do try our best.

Q: How do you position SkinBase treatments so clients see them as an investment rather than a cost?

I focus on long-term results rather than short-term quick fixes. It’s about helping them understand that they’re not just paying for a single treatment. They’re investing in the health of their skin, which will improve their confidence and give them longer lasting results. When they see the value that their skin journey is actually giving them and the results that they can achieve, their attitude naturally shifts from being a cost to an investment in themselves.

Q: What advice would you give to therapists who struggle to attract clients for advanced treatments?

If you’re finding it difficult to attract clients for advanced treatments, my biggest piece of advice would to be focus on the client and not the treatment. Talk about the client and their problems, not just the treatments that you offer. Use your knowledge that you’ve got to educate and build trust with your customers. When the clients understand their skin and feel confident in you, they’re much more likely to invest in more advanced treatment options that you can offer. It’s all about guiding them, not selling to them.

Q: Finally, what’s your number one skincare tip for maintaining a fresh, glowing complexion year-round?

My number one skincare tip is consistency. Lasting improvements in their skin will come from being consistent with everything that you do and they do as well. It’s not about quick fixes. It’s about having a structured plan of regular treatments, regular maintenance appointments and the right home skincare routine.
