Breakouts
Stubborn spots you just can’t get rid of are often caused by skincare with too much oil in it. Check the ingredients of your moisturiser – are there oils near the top of the list? If so, it’s time to change to something lighter. If you use a creamy face wash, cleansing balm or night oil, try cutting these from your routine too and see if you notice an improvement.
Dry, flaky skin
Dry and flaky skin is often caused by a lack of moisture in the skin, rather than a lack of oil, which is what people usually assume. Try a hydrating serum, and make sure to drink enough water. Another cause is over-cleansing; if you use a foaming cleanser, switch to something creamy or a balm.
Blocked pores
Blackheads can be caused by using products with too much oil, and by not exfoliating enough. Check the ingredients of your products to make sure they aren’t too oily, and make sure you keep up a regular exfoliation routine. Microdermabrasion is fantastic for getting rid of blackheads.
Sensitive/reactive skin
Using harsh or irritating products can cause sensitivity. Strong cleansers, essential oils, powerful preservatives and products with too many ingredients are all known causes of sensitivity. Switch to a gentler brand and your sensitivity should greatly reduce.
Dull, rough skin
Using an ineffective exfoliator can result in lacklustre skin. By not exfoliating enough, the build-up of dead skin leads to dullness. This is easily rectified by using a good exfoliator twice a week. Just make sure to choose a good quality one that fits your skin type!
