We’re fully in amongst the season for flip flops, sandals, and bare feet – meaning that it’s also the season you need tips for your summertime heels. Without the proper care, you could easily end up with unsightly cracked heels that feel as awful as they look. If you’ve forgotten about your toes in your haste to play in the sun or get bikini ready, no worries! Here are some top tips for your summertime heels!
Treat yourself to a pedicure
Getting a pedicure is unquestionably one of the best tips for your summertime heels. Even if it’s a monthly treat, you deserve it – and so do your feet. A nice long soak, a wonderful massage, a rigorous exfoliation, and plenty of moisturiser are exactly what the doctor ordered. A pedicure is a one-stop shop, in a way, because your nail technician does many of the things advised in this list!
Put your bananas to good use
My bananas always end up getting way too ripe before I eat them. At that point, you can turn your bananas into many things, such as facials and hair masks. You can use them on your feet too, though. All you have to do is mash your banana into a paste. Then, after thoroughly cleaning your feet, cover them with the paste, let it stay on for 15 minutes or so, and rinse your feet in warm water. After the warm water, indulge in a cooler soak. Do this weekly, and your heels will stay smooth.
Perfect your pumice stone
You exfoliate your face and likely even your legs before you shave, right? Well, your feet need some exfoliation love as well, which brings me to the pumice stone. You can use it every day, whether you prefer showers or baths. Just be careful and only use it on your heels and the very balls of your feet, so you don’t irritate or hurt other, more delicate areas.
Never neglect your moisturiser
Moisturiser is so important! You can use a thick skin cream, a specialty foot cream, or even Vaseline. If your heels are in really bad shape, you should not only moisturise every morning and every time you get out of the bath or shower, but also before bed. Put your lotion on thick and then pull on some thin white socks. You don’t have to keep them on all night (I hate that), but try to keep them on for a few hours; they really help the lotion soak into your heels.
Give yourself a salt water soak
Salt water is excellent for dry, cracked heels. Give yourself a treat after a long day at work or an intense workout by having a 15 minute soak. Pour some sea salt into a warm water bath and let your feet soak for about 15 minutes, then switch over to cold water. If your feet are painful, this will help with the sting in addition to making them softer. Don’t forget to moisturise and put on your socks when you’re done!
