As if acne wasn’t bad enough, once it’s gone it can leave lasting scars which can really play on our confidence.

Many skincare brands claim that their creams and masks help to reduce the appearance of scars, but, usually, these chemical-heavy solutions just make things worse, stripping the skin of its essential oils. Why not try making scar-reducing treatments from the comfort of your own home which will help to guarantee no harsh or drying chemicals are mixed with ingredients that are natural and can actually help.

1) Lemon juice

This tip is easy peasy, lemon squeezey – literally! All you need to do is simply rub lemon juice over the face with a cotton ball (avoiding any cuts or injuries – ouchie!). Fresh juice squeezed from a whole lemon is much better, not the condensed kind from a bottle. If you feel it is a little too harsh on your skin, try diluting the lemon juice with a little water.

Apply the lemon juice on your face for approximately ten minutes, before giving it a good rinse with lukewarm water. The lemon works its magic by removing dead skin cells with its mild acidic juice. It works particularly well on the red and dry patches that recent breakouts can often leave behind.

Do be aware though that lemon juice when applied to the body can make your skin more at risk of sun damage; so be sure to use sunscreen.

2) Cucumber

Another cheap, easy and natural way to help get rid of acne scars and keep skin smooth. Ever noticed how so many beauty products use cucumber as a key ingredient? Well there is a reason for that because it helps your skin to get better!

3) Tomatoes

Fresh tomato juice applied in a thin layer over the face works in the same fashion as lemon juice. Tomatoes contain a vital ingredient vitamin A, which is key for beautiful skin and a popular ingredient found in many acne treatments. Try making a facial mask by mashing cucumbers and tomatoes (in equal proportions) together, to reveal young skin and closed and clear pores. Put this mask on your face for about ten minutes, a couple of times a week for best results.

4) Calming mask

For a calming facial treatment, make a mixture of nutmeg and milk in equal parts. Nutmeg speeds up the healing process by killing bacteria and whole milk reduces redness and soothes inflammation. Leave the mixture on your face for about 10-15 minutes before rinsing away.
