One of the things we are often asked about here at SkinBase is creating the perfect even skin tone. It can sometimes feel impossible to get that ‘picture perfect’ look we all want, but we’ve compiled a short list of tips to help.
My skin tone is quite uneven and I’ve done everything I can to make it more even. That includes using every makeup trick in the book. So, if you’re like me, you’ve got to see what I’ve used and what has worked!
Prep with primer
You always want to make sure that the first makeup tricks for uneven skin tone that you try all start with primer. Priming your skin is the best way to make sure that your makeup looks beautiful and stays put! I always start with eye primer and then go with a full face primer.
Next up, your foundation is going to be the most important thing that makes your skin looks completely even. You always want to get a foundation colour that is of the exact same shade as your skin, that way your skin will look all smooth and natural. You don’t want your face to be a different colour from your chest, do you?
Conceal to make skin tone even
If you have a lot of patches of uneven skin tone or even any imperfections of your skin, make sure that you are using a bit of concealer, that way you can blend everything together. My favourite brand of concealer is MAC. I know it’s expensive, but it is so worth it and it is so light!
Powder it up
Whenever you are dealing with foundation and concealer, you always want to set everything with powder. Whether you are choosing pressed or loose, that’s completely your choice, but you do want to use it. For me, I use pressed powder, I think that it allows you to have a little more control and you can eliminate that shine with just a few swipes!
Highlight your cheekbones
When you have uneven skin tones, it’s really hard to draw attention to anything besides your skin tone – unless you highlight! Using a bit of highlighting along your cheekbones can really brighten up your entire face. It will also allow your skin to look even and beautiful!
Contour any uneven patches
Contouring is one of the best ways that you can hide all of your uneven skin tones and even buff them out with makeup! Using a bit of bronzer and a bit of blush can make all of the difference in the world, girls! What I do is typically use a little bronzer along my cheekbones and then blush along the apples of my cheeks.
Because most uneven skin tones are superficial, microdermabrasion is usually the first treatment option people go for. The SkinBase Facial™ uses fine crystals which are gently blasted across the uneven skin tone using a small jet. This directly affects the outer layer of skin causing it to break away, aiding in lightening or removing unwanted pigments and revealing the gorgeous even skin tone beneath.
