We love a bit of London Fashion Week and are always on the look out for the latest beauty, hair and fashion trends. So we were so pleased to discover our pals over at My Daily have been back stage to scout out tricks and tips for us all to try. Read on for more insight!
So – during the Spring/Summer 2014 shows at London Fashion Week – My Daily tracked down some of the best hairstylists, makeup and nails artists in the industry to find out what’s hot in beauty. Here’s what they learned:
1. Amazing skincare secret alert!
Backstage at Markus Lupfer’s show, makeup artist Lucy Burt shared her favourite beauty secret. “Mix a drop of face oil (Lucy was using Liz Earle’s Superskin Concentrate) with your favourite cream blusher – it has to be a cream one though – for an amazing, long-lasting glow on the cheeks”.
2. Get the falsies out.
“Lashes are back” announced Mac’s Terry Barber on the first day of London Fashion Week. “It’s after so many seasons of no mascara”, he confirmed backstage at Jean-Pierre Braganza. So – does this mean it’s time to love falsies again? Hell yes.
3. Channel Jane Birkin.
“The Sixties are still a big deal”, Mac Senior Artist Lucy Butterworth told us. “But there are new references and it’s not too obvious – think Jane Birkin”. So – what does this mean for makeup? “Lots of lashes, doe-eyes and coloured eye shadow”. Got it.
4. Hair extensions are out, naturally beautiful locks are in.
Want amazing hair? “Ditch electricals”, Bumble and Bumble’s stylist Halley Brisker suggested while L’Oreal Professional’s Anthony Turner advised to keep hair “raw, real and honest” at J.W. Anderson.
Brisker did things the hard way at Markus Lupfer by tying the hair into two buns and leaving it to set for half an hour before letting it out and fluffing up the natural kinks. The result? “Incredible, natural, angelic hair”. Who doesn’t want that?
5. Looking healthy is on trend.
Although the natural makeup trend has been around for a while, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni revealed that the look is “a prettier, healthy natural” for Spring/Summer 2014. “At J.W Anderson, it’s all about the individual girl and enhancing her beauty”. How did she do it? Cheeks were ruddy, brows were brushed up and skin was “supernatural”. Better start getting that beauty sleep…
6. Religious nail art is on its way (along with a new nail shape).
Backstage at House of Holland, fashion’s favourite nail artist Sophy Robson used South American religious iconography inspired by that “street gangy” Mexican vibe in Henry’s show. “No one has really used religion in nail art yet, but I’m sure that’s about to change”, said Robson. As for the new nail shape? “This new square shape has got the point cut off it – some call it the ‘squareletto’ – which is going to be huge next year”.
