Here at SkinBase, we don’t often focus our blog on Fitness but with the Autumn Equinox happening next Tuesday (23rd September) it would appear that Christmas is edging ever closer, and that can only mean one thing – Little Black Dress Season!!

So if you’re looking for a way to kick start healthy habits, before you ruin it all with Bailey’s Hot Chocolate, then you’ve come to the right place! Read on for the seven most common habits of people who are always fit. Try to incorporate some or all of these habits into daily life, and staying healthy will feel as easy as A,B,C…

1. Do not skip any workouts.

Once you’ve planned a workout into your day, even if it’s 15 mins, try to never skip it – this is certainly one of the healthy habits of fit people. We aren’t saying that you have to work out every day and not ever have a rest day as rest days are healthy and very important for your body. But, it’s important once you’ve made a promise to yourself to work out a certain number of days per week, that you aim to stick to it.

2. Keep your routine varied and exciting.

Varying your workout challenges your entire body including heart, muscles, lungs and keeps your body guessing. Although running three miles every day will help to keep you active, once your body and mind get used to it, it won’t have any wondrous effects. Shaking up your routine will help to take your fitness and progress to the next level.

3. Think positively about your workouts.

Try to view your workouts as a positive part of your day, just something you can’t be bothered about or wish was over with. Instead, make it a high point in the day and something to look forward to. Working out offers a great opportunity to clear your mind and build up those feel-good endorphins that will be sure to leave you feeling amazing post-sweat.

4. Eat clean, train mean and stay lean.

It sounds like common sense, but if you’re wanting to maintain a healthy lifestyle, burgers, chips, fried food etc should not be the main stay of your diet! Try to steer clear of processed food and consume real food almost 100% of the time. Don’t deny yourself the odd treat, but make sure that’s exactly what they are – treats! A diet high in lean protein, veggies and fruit will do a body good and you’ll be reaping the awards!

5. You are unique and brilliant – do not compare.

Avoid comparing your body to other people’s bodies and accept that every person is different and we all have our hang ups – even the supermodels who grace the catwalks! Aim to be in the best shape you can be and lead a healthy lifestyle, and you’ll soon find there is no reason to compare yourself to others.

6. Get lots of sleep.

Knocking back the zzz’s is the most underrated, yet important beauty and health secret. When you are asleep, muscles repair themselves following a workout and give you enough energy to work out to the best of your ability. Enough sleep is also critical for a strong immune system, a healthy metabolism, and anti-ageing.

7. Don’t underestimate the power of H20.

Drinking enough water is up there with getting enough sleep – but the power of both is often underestimated! Getting the right amount of H20 will keep you hydrated and curb your appetite throughout the day, as well as replacing the water lost through sweat when you workout.
