Science backed ways to look younger

It has to be said, there are a lot of anti-ageing products out there promising to transform your skin, reverse ageing and eliminate wrinkles. But how many of these products are actually backed by science? It’s hard to say. Instead of pouring money into an endless supply of skincare products that may or may not work, try these science-backed ways to get younger looking skin instead.  Wear SPF UV rays have a damaging effect on the skin – they are a form of radiation, which degrades collagen and hyaluronic acid levels over time. This is why people who spend years tanning can end up with a heavily wrinkled face, and it’s also why hands will often age faster than faces; they are exposed to far more sun and receive far less protection over the years. There are treatments available that will increase your hyaluronic acid and collagen levels, but they are always more effective when paired with good sun protection.  Are you a beauty professional, and would like to offer SkinBase™ treatments? Don’t smoke

Aside from age, smoking is the biggest factor in the development of wrinkles. We think it is actually quite shocking to see the difference between a smoker’s skin and a non-smoker’s skin. And it’s not just on the face, although the actual smoke and the constant pursing of the lips does make it a whole lot worse. By starving your body of oxygen, the skin all over your body becomes starved of essential nutrients like vitamin A. And that’s without even mentioning the toxins contained in tobacco, of which there are more than 4,000. These toxins attack collagen and elastin fibres in your skin, causing its structure to collapse from within. If you can stop smoking and get yourself booked onto a course of rejuvenating facials (with all that money you’ll save!) you will be amazed at the difference to your skin.

Sleep more

There are times in our lives when we don’t have a choice in how much sleep we get. Having children, being stressed about work, doing night shifts, insomnia, these all make it more or less impossible to get a good night’s sleep. But if it goes on for too long, your skin will end up dehydrated and dull because your body can’t properly detox, and this will eventually lead to wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
