We hope you’re enjoying the wonderful weather, but if you’re starting to suffer a bit, perhaps struggling to sleep or concentrate at work, here are some great ideas for ways to stay cool.

Cool your pulse points

There are several areas on the body where large amounts of blood pass through small areas. By applying a cool compress or cold water to these areas, you can really help to reduce your body temperature, to get relief from the inescapable heat. The best areas to try are the back of your neck, your temples, the inside of your elbow and the back of your knee. You can cool the areas with anything from frozen peas, a cool gel pad, or just a blast of cold water at the end of your shower.

Sleep well

Fill a hot water bottle halfway and pop it in the freezer. When it’s frozen solid, wrap it in a towel and then cuddle it to sleep! You can even put it into your bed earlier in the evening so you can slip into delightfully cool sheets at bedtime.

Drink enough!

You know we’re all about hydration, but this becomes even more important in hot weather. If you’re feeling sluggish, have a headache, can’t concentrate or you get a head rush when you stand up, you are absolutely dehydrated. You need to drink a minimum of two litres of water a day. Try to make sure almost all of your fluid intake is plain water, rather than fizzy pop, juice or squash, and remember, a G&T or glass of Pimms does not count, no matter how much liquid there is in it!

Spritz yourself

Keep a water spray in the fridge for when you’re really overheating – whether it’s a fancy facial mist or, an aerosol water spritz or a simple spray bottle filled with tap water, you can use this to cool and refresh at any time of the day or night.

Stay cool, and enjoy the weather!
