Happy New Year, Happy New Decade

We normally avoid the obligatory New Year’s resolution post, because let’s face it we’ve usually forgotten about them by February, but it’s a whole new decade starting today and 10 years is a long time and it’s easy to drift aimlessly along. A little bit of time spent thinking and laying out your hopes and dreams for the next 10 years can help to make sure this is the life you achieve by 2030.

Creating a 10 Year Plan, What’s Involved?

Firstly, it will help to break down the plan into different areas of your life. We suggest; Personal, Work, health and fitness for starters but you may have your own specific areas you want to work on. Next, think about where you want to be in 10 years’ time, how old will you be? Where do you see yourself living and working? What is your family situation like? How fit and healthy are you? How well are you ageing? Are you in a relationship? Have you left a relationship?

Work – Getting Your Dream Job

Let’s say getting your dream job is in your 10 year plan for the work category, next you need to think about the steps involved to achieve this. Do you need more qualifications? More experience? Is learning new skills important or taking an apprenticeship maybe? Do you need to completely retrain or go to night school around your full-time job and/or family?  How will you take steps to get what you need for your dream job in place. 10 years gives you plenty of time to work towards this goal and stop you drifting along in a job that isn’t going to get you there.

Personal – Buying a Home

This might be on your list of personal goals and buying a house is a huge decision and a big commitment and long-term cost. There are lots of ways you can put this into your 10 year plan. Saving is the obvious step but you will also need to consider the area, schools if you have children, cost, type of mortgage and the length of term for that repayment. You might want to take advice from experts or carry out your own research. Is it a first home or a forever home? Write down all the considerations for your personal goals and the steps required to achieve them and make sure you are chipping away at them.

Health and Fitness

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news, but you’ll be 10 years older by 2030 and that might mean some changes are needed to maintain or improve your health and fitness during that time. If you’re creeping out of your 20s you might find your skin needs more care and attention as fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. A skincare plan and diet and fitness plan can help make sure you look as good at 40, 50, 60 years old as your ten years younger self.
