Five easy steps to beautiful feet this summer

Strappy sandals and flip flop season is upon us and if you haven’t given your feet much TLC during the winter, likely the panic is setting in! But do not fear, we’ve pulled together four easy ways to help your feet look their best, all year long.

Beautiful feet are something we all want, especially in the summer. The likelihood is, we’ve given them very little attention during the winter months as they are hidden to protect them from the elements, but once it turns flip-flop and strappy sandal season, it’s time to give them some extra TLC.

It’s not always easy to keep your feet in tip-top shape, after all, we put them through a lot and they have to carry us around all day! But we’ve done our research and have pulled together five easy ways to help keep your feet looking their best all year long!

1. Soak your feet regularly in warm water

Dry or rough skin on the feet is not uncommon and it’s likely we have all suffered from time to time. But, the good news is, you can make a real positive impact and keep them soft and clean by simply soaking your feet regularly. I remember investing in an at-home foot spa back in the day, but to be honest, all you really need is just a bucket of warm water for a good soak. Try adding a few drops of an essential oil of your choice, such as rose essential oil, or even just plain old olive oil will work wonders and provide much-needed moisture. Soaking your feet for ten to fifteen minutes should do the job, any longer and your feet might become a little pruned, which will hinder the skin’s ability to shed dead skin.

2. Scrub a dub dub

So now you’ve soaked your feet, it’s time to give them a good scrub to smooth dry or rough areas. Use a pumice stone or scrub (no need to purchase a specific foot one, a facial one will do!) to massage the rough areas. Make sure you always go with the grain of your feet and only use a pumice stone when feet are still damp.

3. Allow them to breathe

Sounds silly doesn’t it – let your feet breathe! But actually, it’s very important as just like the skin everywhere else on the body, feet build up sweat and dirt in your shoes during the day, which will continue to wear on your feet after hours. Simply just remove your socks and shoes when you get home and this will really help. If you allow sweat and dirt to stay on your feet too long, you’re creating a breeding ground for bacteria and related diseases such as athlete’s foot.

4. Pay particular attention to your toenails

Ever had an ingrown or broken toenail? Ouchie! Not only are they painful, they are also unsightly. To prevent these ailments, make a point to regularly trim your toenails. Just be sure not to make the nail too short, as this can also cause discomfort.

5. Luxury microdermabrasion pedicure

If that all sounds a bit too much effort for you then simply book yourself a SkinBase luxury pedicure. Using micro-crystals, microdermabrasion sloughs away the old skin and stimulates blood flow to give you soft, glowing feet. Find your nearest SkinBase salon.
