Acne and acne scarring is a big fat bane of many people’s lives and just when you thought you’d done your fair stint of spots throughout your teenage years, you then discover that you’re not immune to it – even in your twenties and beyond.

Many of my pals will tell me that some of the treatments they try from abrasive facial washes and spot creams just make the situation worse by aggravating the skin, creating an uneven skin tone and skin that appears red and ‘angry’ – (you know what I mean by angry skin right?).

Sometimes, even with a good foundation and clever lighting, you still can’t help but feel self-conscious and it can take its toll on our confidence. To the extent where we might miss social engagements or dates (god forbid!). The key to acne woes is don’t worry, you’re not alone, we’ve all been there – come on, let’s have a group hug!

Microdermabrasion

Over the years, microdermabrasion treatments have gradually become the first choice for many people searching for an acne cure that helps correct acne scarring. If you’re curious to know whether it could help you, then you’ve come to the right place!

Surveys suggest that 95% of adolescents and adults suffer with acne scarring problems, so you should know that you’re not alone in your quest to find a cure.

Acne Scarring

Scarring caused by acne looks very different from any other scars – it’s the deficit of collagen in the specific region that gives rise to acne scarring. After the acne has subsided, the affected skin region needs collagen to heal and if the skin underlying the subsided acne doesn’t have it, then it tends to scar during the healing process thereby giving rise to an ice pick scar.

The SkinBase Facial™ is a perfect acne treatment for helping to get rid of acne scarring because it encourages collagen to form. In fact, the effects of this acne treatment can often be noticed after just one treatment. If the acne scarring is deep, you may require a larger number of treatments. Your SkinBase therapist will advise you on this at the consultation stage.

Why microdermabrasion as a treatment for acne & acne scarring?

  • Reduced acne scarring
  • Improved skin appearance and texture

  • Relaxing treatment
  • Calms red and uneven skin tone leaving you with glowing, revitalised skin

A few tips to try at home…

Drink lots of water.

It’s an oldie but a goodie and be honest, do you really get your eight glasses?? Being fully hydrated will help plump the skin out and make any scars appear less visible which can only be a good thing!

No Picking, ever.

Don’t pick. As tempting as it feels at the time, please please don’t pick!! You’ll only spread the infection and risk scarring. If you leave your spots to heal without touching you can prevent scars from forming. So stop that pesky picking!

Don’t wash your skin too often!

As a teen, I got into the bad habit of washing my skin repeatedly. All you will do is strip the skin of the natural oil that it needs. Your skin will then react and this is quite often when the angry skin comes out to play. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

And, don’t just take out word for it – take a look at our before and after photos to see for yourself the positive effects The SkinBase Facial™ has on acne scarring – leading to acne cures unlike any other.
